Spot cleaning of brushes

Hey Glamifys!

Just a mini follow up to the previous post where I shared the different kinds of brush cleaners available…. 🙂

Basically, there are 2 kinds of cleaning that you want to do ( I’m assuming this is for personal use only):

1. Spot cleaning – after each use if possible

2. Deep cleanse – usually weekly or bi weekly

This will ensure the following:

1. Hygiene
– minimize bacteria buildup
– remove dead cells accumulated on brushes
– reduce acne/pimples

2. Maintenance of brush quality
– brush bristles kept in shape
– cleaning the right way reduces damage to brush
– minimize shedding due to product buildup ( products can contain ingredients that may loosen the glue holding the bristles)
– increase life span of your precious brushes

3. Performance of makeup application
– maximize the brush’s potential
– bristles were meant to be individual strands not a clumpy mess
– product adheres better to brush and transfers better to face
– most likely reduce the amount of product needed for each application

So here’s how I spot clean:

1. Transfer cleaner into spray bottle if needed. Recycle your old bottles :p save $$$

2. Spray cleaner directly on bristles until damp (not dripping wet!)

3. Swirl your brush into a paper towel. Repeat step 2 & 3 until brush is clean

4. Run brush under tap water and gently squeeze dry.

5. Place paper towel or cloth on a tray/plate/(get creative!) on any surface that has a tiny slope for you to raise the handle of the brush ever so slightly. Use gravity to assist with the drying process. However, do not rest handle on steep slope! It will damage the bristles.

6. Leave brushes overnight to air dry. Some brushes like kabuki etc may take longer. Whereas, real techniques take less than half a night to dry.

Will be deep cleaning my brushes over the weekend so stay tuned for tips on that 😀

Some really wonderful information, Gladiola I observed this. “Ours is a world where people don’t know what they want and are willing to go through hell to get it.” by Donald Robert Perry Marquis.
