Review: Benefit They’re Real Mascara

Hi Glamifys,

I headed over to sephora the other day and saw benefit having a promotion for their famous mascara!

Heard alot about it but as I have so many mascaras at the moment, I thought of postponing trying it out.

That ideal thought didn’t last too long though! Hehe

Sephora had a full size mascara selling for SGD 37 and with the promotion, you get a free travel size mascara!

Yippie! Perfect for my upcoming trip to London 🙂 pack light !

Benedict’s packaging is always cute anyways. The mascara was no different. The original size came in a metallic reflective tube whereas the travel size came in a matte grey boring tube. Haha

For those who have medium to long lashes that have a slight natural curl to it, you may prefer mascaras with a slightly wet formula since it coats the lashes to give it thicker volume and length. However, not everyone ( especially those who have short , stubborn lashes) would like wet formulas.

This is because wet formulas are ” heavy” and can weigh down on the lashes. Thereby, “un-curling” your lashes with time. For short lashes, go for a dry formula such as LancĂ´me’s hypnose series or Dior’s overcurl mascara.

Benefit’s they’re real mascara is probably more on the wet formula side of the scale. It has a gel like consistency that coats the individual lashes.

The brush is also very big and may get messy if you have smaller eyes. It is also made of rubber rather than bristles. This helps lashes to be separated and lengthened.

I would say that this reminds me very much of Dior’s new look mascara. The consistency is thicker than Dior, the brush head is way larger (I prefer the Dior as it is small enough to get right into the roots & also the tiny lower lashes) and Dior is alot less clumpy due to a wetter formula.

As I am fully aware that Dior mascaras range anywhere from SGD 52-65, the benefit mascara is a cheaper alternative to the Dior new look.

Benefit does the job but you would need to comb out the lashes to remove clumps. Apart from that, I think it’s pretty good considering the mascara held my curl for the whole day.

If you are not too sure about buying the full size, I have seen sephora carry the travel size for about SGD 18 ( I think *-* ) that’s a great way to see if the full size if worth all the hype!

Have a wonderful week ahead!

Cheers,
